A little bit about me…

Looking back, I can remember my first camera.  I’m pretty sure it was plastic and pink – I took endless (film!) photos of my cats.  And sometimes my friends.  I can’t remember, but I guess my parents paid to have the film developed… (thanks Mom and Dad!).

In highschool, I signed up for my first photography class, and learned the basics with a very old handed-down hunk of a camera.  I was hooked.  Nerdy me would actually skip on other classes to spend time in the darkroom.

My grandfather was a photographer in WWII, and I have many special memories of discussing photography with him… all while looking through his photos of the war, and listening to the stories that went with them. I remember thinking then that the idea of being a “real” photographer sounded like the coolest thing ever. As a graduation present my parents bought his old camera and gave it to ME.  It was love.  (PS: I miss you, Grandaddy.)

My “professional” (ie: paid) photography career began in Baltimore working for a sports photo company, but I quickly discovered that weddings were way more fun. I landed a weekend gig photographing weddings in the Baltimore/Annapolis area with locally renowned photographers Eric Weuchner and Ray Persinger – who taught me so much!  I used all my earnings to buy more camera equipment (my daytime graphic design job paid the rent).

In 2005, I moved to the sunny island of St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands to marry my sweet and supportive husband, who I happened to meet on vacation a year earlier. I began shooting weddings on the side – as I always had – but after the birth of my daughter in 2010, the idea of quitting my “day job” to take on the roles of full time “Mom” and “Photographer” seemed like the right thing to do.  And of course, it was.  (enter previously mentioned supportive husband and many cheer-leading friends and family, of course!)  I love all of my island wedding couples – no matter how big or small the event, it is so incredible to be a part of someone’s most fabulous day. On top of that, being a parent opened up my eyes to a whole new world of family photography.  The fun never ends!!

I love what I do, and I hope you do, too!
